Working
in Singapore
Local transportation is efficient, comfortable and reasonably priced.
For getting around town, there's the MRT, buses, taxis or if you prefer,
rent a car and do it yourself! For an interesting view of Singapore, especially
around the tourist attractions, get on a trishaw!
By Road
- Buses: Regular services are provided by
SBS (red & white) and TIBS (yellow & white). The Singapore Explorer
Ticket (S$5 for one day and S$12 for three days) is ideal for visitors
and is available from most hotels. SBS Hotline: 1-800-287-2727
The Singapore Trolley Bus shuttles between Orchard Road, Tanjong Pagar
and the World Trade Centre and runs from 9 am to 10 pm. Fares are S$9
for adults and S$7 for children.
AIRBUS Runs between the airport and major hotels every 20 minutes starting
at 6 am right till 12 am. The fares are S$5 (adults) and S$3 (children
below 12) AIRBUS Hotline: 542 1721 Available at the airport, major hotels
and on board the AIRBUS.
- Taxis: The fare begins at S$2.40 for the
first 1 km and 10 cents for every subsequent 240 metres. Between midnight
and 6 am, 50% surcharge over meter fare is applicable. For tele-cabs,
a surcharge of S$2.20 is payable. Other surcharges are applicable, say
if you want to enter the CBD, check with the driver first. Taxi Service

- Car Rental: Car rental companies, including
major regional ones, can be found here. Rates vary. You need a valid
International Driving Licence or a Driving Licence from your country
of residence.
By Air
- Changi International Airport is the entry gateway into Singapore.
The national carrier is Singapore Airlines. The highly-rated world-class
airport services all the major international airlines and is the centre
for the regional airline network within South-east Asia. Changi is capable
of handling up to 24 million passengers, through the 2 terminals - Terminal
1 and Terminal 2.
- Airport Facilities: The extensive facilities
at Changi are designed to make the traveller as comfortable as possible
and include banks, moneychangers, post office, telecommunications facilities,
shops and restaurants, day rooms, fitness centre, hotel, business centre

(Terminal 2) No domestic flights are available within Singapore. Seletar
has a small international airport which serves the region. The Passenger
Service Charge (PSC) or Airport Tax of $15 is incorporated into the
price of the air ticket (including tickets issued outside Singapore).
By Sea
- Singapore offers a wide range of cruise trips/holidays around the
country and the region. Choose from the imperial cruise, the junk cruise,
Catamaran cruise or charter a cruise for both day and overnight trips.
The Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC) is made up of 3 terminals
- the International Passenger Terminal (ITP); the Regional Ferry Terminal
(RFT); and the Domestic Ferry Terminal (DFT). It also incorporates facilities
such as duty-free shops, banking and telecommunications services and

By Rail
- Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) operates
frequent services with intervals between 3 and 8 minutes from 6 am until
midnight. Fares range from S$0.70 to S$1.60. Transitlink is a S$10 farecard
which operates like a travelcard and offers you rides on the MRT as
well as the buses operated by SBS and TIBS. Souvenir tickets are available
for S$7. Bear in mind that there is a time limit on all tickets. To

- The Malaysian railway system's southern
termination point is Singapore. Train services between the two countries
run regularly. The Singapore Railway Station is at Keppel Road. Tel:
